| For the idle start with the idle control valves: [ http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/920429/Idle-valve-IAA-and-air-regulator-how-to-part-1.html ] [ http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/920448/Idle-valve-IAA-and-air-regulator-how-to-part-2.html ] [ http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/855473/Idle-RPM-Problem-Reference-Guide.html ] For the brake light, check the brake master cylinder, it has a sensor that will trip the brake warning light if it's low on fluid. Check the brake light bulbs, if one is out or has a bad connection it will trip the light. If the brakes are in good condition (rotors, pads, fluid, etc) then a set of performance pads would be the place to start. For maintenance, if you have any kind of service records start there. As for the timing belt, you can pull the drivers side belt cover easy enough to get a look at it. If it's cracked, showing an abnormal wear pattern, or otherwise damaged that's the first thing to do. In general if you have a few hundred to spend on a timing belt kit it's a good idea to replace so you know it's in good working order.
